Friday Flicks: The Ancient Magus’ Bride

I saw a teaser for this on Facebook and jumped at the chance to watch it. It’s an amazing show so far!

The Ancient Magus’ Bride‘ or ‘  ‘(魔法使いの嫁) Mahō Tsukai no Yome’ is a shonen fantasy manga by Kore Yamazaki. It was first published in Monthly Comic Blade in 2013-2014 and from 2014 to today it is being published in Monthly Comic Garden magazine. The manga is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment while the anime and three part OVA were produced by Wit Studio, whom have also adapted ‘Attack on Titan‘ and ‘Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.’

The anime began airing in October, beginning with the release of the three part OVA, which was originally shown in theaters.

Synopsis: Chise Hatori, 15 years old.
Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money – not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.
She moves on with her new and peaceful life, slowly but surely, until one day, when she finds a Japanese picture book among the many sent to her from London by Angelica. It is a fateful book that discovered her in her younger years, when she was still troubled and lonely.
This piece is a prequel to Chise’s encounter with the Thorn Sorcerer. [synopsis provided by Crunchyroll]

If you’d like to watch it, watch it on Crunchyroll! It has all three parts of the prequel OVA and the first four episodes up now. The simulcast happens every Saturday at 12:30 PM  CDT, and it has 24 episodes.
