I watched this in November (2015) sometime, and it wasn’t too bad. I got distracted from writing and ended up watching this.
“Baoh” is a Japanese manga series that written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, who’s famous for his manga, “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.”
This manga was originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1984-1985, and later compiled into two volumes.
The series was adapted into a single-episode OVA by Studio Pierrot in 1989.
Synopsis: Teenager Ikuro Hashizawa is kidnapped and turned into a Baoh, a bioweapon with super-human strength and other abilities such as firing a corrosive substance, by the Doress Laboratory. He escapes with the help of Sumire, a 10-year-old psychic girl. Professor Kasuminome, head scientist at Doress, sends various assassins and monsters to try and kill Ikuro, in means of stopping the Baoh virus from spreading and infecting the world
Okay, so in the beginning, we see Sumire, she and her little mutant cat-like pet Nattsuo are on a train being transported to the laboratory and are being held captive, she manages to escape to another train car where Ikuro is being held.
The scuffle causes the tank he is being held in suspended animation in to burst, and he awakens. He and Sumire escape.
Soon, Doress sends their #1 assassin after them, #22. He is killed at a gas station and this sets off Ikuro’s Baoh Armed Phenomenon to activate, and is killed. And by killed I mean his face fucking melts off and his car explodes.
So after that, they send ANOTHER assassin. They kidnap Sumire, knowing Ikuro will come after her, and he does. So he gets in a fight with Dordo (the assassin) who’s apparently supposed to be a perfect shot.
Well guess who isn’t such a good shot? Turns out he’s also a cyborg, but that’s figured out shortly before Ikuro kills him and the other guys in the helicopter.
After that, Ikuro finally infiltrates Doress Laboratory, only to fight Walken, the world’s most powerful psychic. The first time he escapes so he can save Sumire, because they’re torturing her and it’s a trap for him.
Well, the details are a bit fuzzy for me, but they escape as Professor K (as I am too lazy to scroll up) sets the SELF DESTRUCT FUNCTION TO OPERATIONAL, and he and his assistant escape in a pod as he bids everyone else good luck because they’re supposed to run out of there (its set on a cliff) in 15 minutes.
Nice move. Asshole.
Anyway, Ikuro and Sumire DO escape, into an underground tunnel, and face off against Walken, Professor K and his assistant one last time.
Ikuro tells Sumire to escape, so she and Nattsuo head out where Ikuro pointed as he faces off with Doress one more time.
Everyone dies. Except Ikuro, but he’s in a coma at the bottom of the ocean.
According to Sumire’s last narrative, he’ll awake in five years. When she’s 17.
Ikuro is 17. I suppose that’s supposed to be a romantic ‘I’ll wait for you’ thing.
There’s a lot of gore, and by gore I mean people’s faces melting off. I mean, there’s stabbing and lasers, tearing of flesh, but mostly melting.
If you’d like to take a look at it, I found it on YouTube.
