This name has popped up so many times when I’m looking up old school groups, but I’ve never really paid them any attention. Until now. It’s funny because they were a part of SM, you think I would have looked them up by now.
But nope.
Black Beat was supposed to be a soloist (I don’t know which one) when they debuted in 2000 as a seven member group at Lee Ji Hun‘s Dream Concert 2000 when they appeared as back up vocalists/dancers. They performed as rappers and dancers for various artists before and during their time as a group with artists such as S.E.S, H.O.T, Shinhwa, BoA, Fly to the Sky, Shinvi, and Dana.
They weren’t heavily promoted and eventually disbanded in 2007.
Hwang Sang Hoon is still in SM as a choreographer, Shim Jae Won choreographed “Into The New World” for Girls’ Generation, and directed the video for Super Junior‘s “Wonder Boy.” He was also assisted by Rino Nakasone to choreograph the masterpiece death trap that is “Lucifer.”
…I can’t dance, okay?
Anywho, Jang Jin Young is now an active member in the R&B duo, ByJinSung, Yoo Hyun Jae is a member of *whisper: JYP, and Lee Kang In joined another group, O.N, and underground band.
I don’t know what’s up with the other peeps.
They released one album, “Volume 1 – Black Beat #2002 – The First Performance #001.” These are a couple of their songs’ videos, “Wing” and “In The Sky.”
