Friday Flicks: Not Putting The Title, That Would Ruin Everything

And by that, I mean it’s a pretty…controversial title, for a controversial anime, which was made into a live action movie. I stumbled across this this past week while looking for a different anime. I was intrigued by the title, and even though the content is not generally (Ever) what I look for, I decided to give it a go, because why not?

The OVA (original video animation; movie; one and only episode) I’m talking about is “僕は妹に恋をする (I’m In Love With My Little Sister)” is about twins Yano and Iku. When they are 15, Yano realizes that his childhood feelings of love for Iku were not merely that of a brother, but a lover.

For more info (and spoilers) read the Wiki, but for just a quick pass, they struggle with the realization of the taboo of incest, secrets, love in high school, virginity, self realization, etc.

The big twist isn’t even revealed in the anime, but in the original manga that was released in 2003. The story was followed by the sequel, “I Give My First Love To You,” which also was given a live action adaptation in 2009, and follows the siblings’ friends, Takuma Kakinouchi (Masaki Okada) and Mayu Taneda (Mao Inoue). They appeared in the original manga, and received their own manga spin off in 2005.

The anime was released in 2005 and titled, “僕は妹に恋をする シークレット・スウィートハート この恋はひみつ (I’m in Love with my Little Sister: Secret Sweethearts – This Love is a Secret).” The ending theme, “Desired Love” is by Shion.

In 2007, a live action version, starring Jun Matsumoto of Arashi and Nana Eikura. The ending theme, “Kitto Ein Ni” is by Crystal Kay.
