Worldwide Wednesday: Selena

I’m sure many of you know the famous female Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. She was born in Texas and took on a musical genre dominated by men, and took the world by storm. With a great career singing in Spanish, she released English material shortly before she was murdered by the president of her fanclub.

I first remember when I was in the fourth grade, and I heard her song, “Dreaming of You.” However, I didn’t know who she was until I was in high school in Spanish class. I fell in love with her song, “No Debes Jugar (You Shouldn’t Play).”

Some of my other favorite songs that I’ll be showing you are “Si Una Vez (If Once), “El Chico En Apartamento 512 (The Boy In Apartment 512),” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and of course, “No Debes Jugar.” I like her a lot, so there are many songs I like. So I’ll have to keep the list short.
